If ever there was a time when the world needed a hero, it is now when airplanes are falling out of the sky into the Hudson River, into Clarence Center and into the Atlantic Ocean.  There is a world-wide economic "down turn" with double-digit unemployment, and bankruptcy of state governments as well as car companies like Chrysler and General Motors leaving millions of people out of work and literally out of their homes.  There are wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as rumors of wars around the world in places like North Korea.  There are churches closing their doors and other churches with such internal fighting they drive people away form Christ instead of bringing them to Christ.  Where is Superman in this hour of desperate need?  O, that he would swoop down out of the sky and rescue us!

The truth is that everyday heroes are everywhere, even in a time such as this.  God is alive and at work recruiting everyday heroes like you and me.  There are examples like the little boy who sacrificed his lunch so Jesus could feed 5,000 men with five loaves and two fish.  How do you like the little slave girl who believed that God could heal General Naaman's leprosy if only he would visit the prophet, Elisha?  Esther was a hero who risked her life in the saving of her people, and God worked through Joseph, the foreign slave and criminal, who became the assistant Pharaoh in the saving of Jacob's family.  King David's family line was rescued by everyday heroes like Ruth, the Moabite foreign widow, and Boaz.

What about you?  Are you willing to be an everyday hero available to God for His purposes of rescuing everyday people who live in your neighborhood, work in your company or visit your family?  God is able and willing to do the big stuff like pulling off miracles and changing the minds of kings, but he chooses to rescue the lost world through everyday people like you and me.  I know; none of us are really ready or fully equipped.  We always need a little more schooling, training, money, influence, power or wisdom.  But our world can't wait to be rescued.  Today is the day of salvation.  When that little boy is drowning in the icy waters of the frozen pond, he can't wait for you to take a life-saving course of some kind.  He needs to be rescued today - right now.  Will you say to God, "Here am I, send me."? Are you willing to take your eyes off your own wants and needs long enough to see the needs of others, and then, with the eyes of faith, take action wherever the Spirit of God leads?
